From November 5 to 8, 2026, Scanno will host the conference “AL PASSO DEI PASTORI,” a festival dedicated to sheepherding as a living heritage, a practice of caring for the land, and a model that points toward the future.
During the International Year of Pastures and Shepherds, the village becomes a meeting place for shepherds, scholars, institutions, artists, and communities, fostering a dialogue between the experiences of the Abruzzo Apennines and other pastoral cultures in the Mediterranean, Europe, and Africa.
Four days of meetings, roundtable discussions, documentaries, immersive exhibitions, workshops, walks, and tastings to explore the relationship between sheepherding, biodiversity, climate change, local production, and new ways of living and caring for the land.
An opportunity to rediscover a tradition deeply rooted in the history of Scanno—not merely as a reminder of the past, but as a potential source of knowledge, resilience, and inspiration for the future.
The event is organized by GAL Abruzzo Italico Alto Sangro in collaboration with COTAS.
